Send us your back-to-school stories and photos

Dear Virtual School Parents,

This week we start a new school year! As a virtual public school parent and learning coach, I have watched my children prepare for the new year. They have bought back to school supplies and a few clothes, set up their schedules for the new year, and already started peeking through their new textbooks.
This is an exciting time for students and parents! What are your children looking forward to this year? Math? Science? History? A school outing? Reconnecting with friends and teachers? We would love to hear from you! Would you take a few minutes to send us an email at and tell us why your child is excited about the new school year? Please include a photo, too! We will share these student stories and photos on our Facebook page.
As we kick off the new school year, I hope you will consider how you can get involved in the Oregon Virtual Public Schools Alliance (OVPSA), our coalition of parents who have joined together to advocate for virtual public education. Over the last several years, our parents have worked hard to educate state policymakers about this important education option. Thanks to your efforts, the Oregon State Legislature is better informed about the critical role of virtual public schools for so many Oregon families, but we need to continue to educate state policymakers about online public schools. Your voice makes a real difference to decision-makers in Salem.
I urge you to check out the OVPSA website, sign up for our updates and be sure toLike our Facebook page. If you would like to play an active role in advocating for virtual public education, please email me at
I also encourage you to mark your calendars to attend our Virtual Schools Capitol Day, which will be held at the State Capitol in Salem on February 6, 2018. It is such a wonderful opportunity to meet other virtual public school families and learn about our state government.
Thanks for your support, and I look forward to working with you to advocate for virtual public education.
