How can you protect your virtual public school?
Dear Parents:
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Oregon Virtual Public Schools Alliance. As you know, we are a coalition of virtual school families and supporters dedicated to the long-term viability of our schools in Oregon.
Over the last several years, our parents have worked tirelessly to educate elected officials and the public about the importance of virtual public schools. Many defenders of the classroom-based public school model have wrongly felt threatened by virtual schools and have attempted to either shut down our schools or eliminate them as a choice for more families. Thanks to your hard work and advocacy, they failed in their effort.
But the Oregon State Legislature continues to debate virtual public schools, and it is imperative that we remain vigilant in defense of our schools.
I urge you to do three things to stay informed on virtual school issues and to expand the community of virtual school supporters;
- Encourage other virtual school supporters to sign up to receive our emails.
- "Like" our Facebook page.
- Forward this email to anyone you know who is new to a virtual school.
Our mission is to provide parent access and choice in virtual public schools, ensure sustainable funding, insist on quality programs, and demand accountability from both the public school system and our schools. If we are to continue to make progress towards these founding principles, parent voices need to be a part of the public debate. Otherwise, elected officials will only hear from those who don't have our children's interest at heart.
If you'd like to play a more active role in defending our schools, please email us and we can follow-up with you.
Thanks for your continued support, and we look forward to staying in touch.
Sincerely,
Cindy McGraw
