Improving Oregon’s education system is among the main assignments facing state lawmakers as the legislature launches another session. Recommendations from a special taskforce include a longer school year, expanding early childhood education, and mental health programs.
Our legislators have many issues to discuss. For students, the curriculum, class size, and technology may vary, but the one thing that probably won’t change is the people in their lives raising them.
Parents have a unique opportunity to instill a love of learning in their kids because as the saying goes, “the parent is the child's first teacher". Many researchers agree, when parents are engaged with their child’s education at home, students do better in school.
