Share your story, sign the petition to lift the enrollment cap

Share your online school story

The Oregon Virtual Public Schools Alliance provides parents with resources to share their online school story. With so many families seeking education alternatives due to COVID-19, the parent perspective is more important than ever. Why did you choose a full-time online public charter school for your child? Or, if you’re trying to enroll your child, why is a full-time online option better than the online option offered by your local school district? State legislators and the public need to hear your story. We are collecting stories from parents and students to demonstrate why full-time online public schools are an important option for Oregon families.

Enrollment cap update

The 2021 Oregon Legislative Session will convene on January 19. Lifting the 3 percent enrollment cap on full-time online public charter schools will be our top legislative priority. With districts across the state hitting the cap, more families are being shut out of full-time online schools, denying them the school of their choice. The parent voice needs to be part of the debate about lifting the cap. We will keep you updated and informed throughout the session about what you can do to make sure your voice is heard. In the meantime, please sign our petition urging legislators to lift the cap.

Election results

The November 3 general election produced few changes in the State Legislature. House Republicans picked up one seat to bring their total to 23. The Democrats hold 37 House seats. The Senate chamber did not see a change in its makeup so the current split, 18 Democrats and 12 Republicans, remains the same. Visit the Oregon Secretary of State website for more election results.

Since we can’t meet in person for Capitol Day this year, we are working on a virtual Capitol Day event. We will share more details about Capitol Day and other engagement opportunities in the new year.
