Dear Parents –
On Wednesday, April 21, at 3:15pm, the Senate Education Committee will hold a hearing on Senate Bill 240 which would remove the 3% enrollment cap on full-time virtual public charter schools. In 2011, the Oregon State Legislature placed a cap of 3% on the number of kids in a school district that can transfer to full-time virtual schools. In the wake of COVID-19, more and more families are seeking enrollment in virtual public schools. School districts across the state are hitting the 3% cap and denying families enrollment in the school of their choice. This simply isn’t fair.
The virtual public school parent voice needs to be heard in the debate around removing the enrollment cap. Please do your part and register to deliver remote testimony at the Senate Education Committee hearing on Wednesday, April 21 at 3:15pm. Tell legislators what a virtual public education has meant to your family and urge them to lift the enrollment cap so more families can take advantage of this important education option!
