Capitol Day
Thank you to the families who attended our 2022 Capitol Day event. We were excited to gather virtually to recognize our students, honor our legislative champions, and hear some powerful messages about why virtual schools are an important education option.
If you were unable to attend, you can watch a recording of the event below and we hope to meet in person at the State Capitol in Salem for Capitol Day 2023.
Legislative Wrap Up
The Oregon State Legislature adjourned on March 4. Two bills, SB1552 and HB4119 to remove the enrollment cap on virtual schools were introduced during the session. Although the bills didn’t move through the legislative process, the Senate Education Committee held an informational hearing on SB1552. The hearing gave parents an opportunity to share their virtual school experience and urge legislators to raise the enrollment cap so more families have access to this school option. Thank you to everyone who testified at the hearing or submitted written comments. You can watch a recording of the hearing here.
Our advocacy for virtual public schools doesn’t stop with Capitol Day or the end of the legislative session. Our state policymakers need to hear from you throughout the year! It takes less than a minute to share your virtual public school story. Visit the Advocate page on our website to send an email your State Senator and State Representative who represent you. Do your part! Make your voice heard in Salem!
